"This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one.
Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no "brief candle" for me; it is a sort of a splendid torch which I have got to hold up for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations." ~ George Bernard Shaw
I cannot express how much this quote resonated within my heartspace and soul while reading Servant Leadership by Robert K. Greenleaf. It felt as if the words were written with me in mind because they truly are my sentiments. The Zoe Life and the fruit thereof, speaks to a life that is fulfilled to a point of overflow abundantly. Not an abundance of "things," social status or even monetary wealth; but an abundance of self-awareness, purpose, passion, contentment, service to mankind in a myriad of ways — all fueled by love.
I am learning day by day my role in humanity. I understand that I am because of those who came before me and those who share breathing space with me now. I have the power to choose how I give of my person, of my time. It is my intention to pour myself completely out before I take my eternal dirt nap. I will continue to do so joyfully, with such intention that I cannot be denied.
I believe in Ubuntu (Zulu pronunciation: [ùɓúntʼù]), a term meaning "humanity." The philosophy of Ubuntu is often translated as "I am because we are." An idea that reinforces my thought of being universally connected with all whom I share space with (including all my breathing plants), and those I have yet to meet. Especially those who are like-minded and intentional about servicing others from the most authentic spaces. I have enough temerity to believe the divine spark of goodness will cause our paths to cross of that I am certain. That's Ubuntu: love, truth, peace, happiness shadowed by eternal happiness. It is who we are innately as human beings since the beginning of time.
I desire for everyone to know what it means to live The Zoe Life, an abundant life that is shaped by the principle of Ubuntu. Yes, we are shaped by our interconnectedness of all things in the universe. I am because we are. I accept that I walk in that knowing because I am now responsible for that which I have learned, and have been called to by Purpose.
